Chromium is a project of open source browser which strives to make the web a safer, faster and more stable experience for all internet users. This is the open source web browser project from which the source code of Google Chrome is derived. Hourly snapshots 64-bit Chromium of the project look almost identical to the latest versions of Google Chrome except for a few additions from Google, the most notable of which are Google's branding, auto-update mechanism, click-through licensing terms, usage - Adobe Flash Player tracking and aggregation.

The application project is named after the chemical element chromium (Cr), which is used to make chromium. According to the developer documentation, Google wanted Chromium to be the name of the open source project and Chrome to be the final product name. Other developers, on the other hand, stole the code and created versions under the same name.

Chrome vs. Google Chrome: what's the difference?

The open source project and browser source code provided and maintained by the Project tool is called the program. The latest precompiled snapshots for Windows, Linux, and Mac can be installed, or the source code can be downloaded and manually created on these systems. Google adds a reader Flash integrated, the name and logo of Google, an automatic update system called GoogleUpdate, an opt-in option allowing users to send usage statistics and crash reports to Google and, in some cases, RLZ tracking, which transmits information in encrypted form to Google, such as when and where Chrome was downloaded. For HTML5 audio and video tags, the app only supports Vorbis, Theora, and WebM by default, though Google Chrome supports them as well as H.264, AAC, and MP3. Other codecs may be added to custom builds of the browser by some Linux distributions.

Google Chrome source code is provided by an open source initiative. Documentation, developer information, problem reports, and a source code download are all available.
