DirectX 11 (DX11) is a set of technologies developed by Microsoft to make Windows computers an excellent platform for running and presenting multimedia applications with color graphics, videos, 3D animations and rich sound. The utility contains security and performance upgrades, as well as a host of new features across all platforms that can be accessed using DirectX APIs.

The Microsoft DirectX® End-User Runtime replaces Direct X 11 and earlier versions, the key Windows® technology that powers high-speed entertainment and gaming on PCs.

Direct3D 11 is now available for your game to utilize the latest visual hardware features as well as current generation computers. This session will introduce you to the API, provide guidance on how to get your renderer working, review key features, and show you how to deploy your application. If you go to other app presentations, you absolutely have to attend this one.

Note that the DirectX Runtime (Direct3D, DirectInput, DirectSound) is not included in this package and cannot be installed or removed as it is part of the Windows operating system. Installing the latest Service Pack or upgrading to a newer version of the Windows PC will update the Runtime.

Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 support Microsoft DirectX 11. This release does not have a standalone update package. Install the service pack and update listed below to upgrade DirectX. You will need to update your operating system to get the most out of DirectX.

Windows 8, Windows RT and Windows Server 2012 all come with the app. The program does not have a standalone update package. This DirectX version is only available through Windows Update on Windows 8, Windows RT and Windows Server 2012.

Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 all come with the utility. The app does not have a standalone update package. In Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2, you can only install this DirectX version using Windows Update.

These versions of Windows come with DirectX 11 and DirectX 12. Windows Update will be used to distribute updates. There is no standalone package available for these DirectX versions.

Microsoft DirectX 11 is available as freeware for Windows PC operating system/platform (32-bit and 64-bit) without any limitation. DirectX11 is offered as a free download for all software users!
