An administrator can configure an IPsec or SSL VPN connection to FortiGate and enable the following features when using EMS to configure a profile for FortiClient:

  • Save Password: In FortiClient Auto Connect user can save login password VPN. The VPN connection is established immediately when FortiClient is activated. If the endpoint starts with a user profile set to auto-connect, auto-connect to the VPN tunnel might fail.
  • When Always Up (Keep Alive) is selected, the VPN connection remains active at all times. FortiClient tries to reconnect if the connection fails, possibly due to network issues. FortiClient quietly attempts to reconnect if the credentials (username and password) are saved. FortiClient prompts for credentials if they are insufficient (for example, if multi-factor authentication is required or if the password has not been saved).
  • After connecting to EMS with FortiClient Telemetry, EMS sends FortiClient a profile with IPsec and/or SSL VPN connections to FortiGate. An SSL VPN connection named test is shown in the following example (1).
