The freeware can be launched from the context menu of a folder or disk and displays the size of the folder, as well as its subfolders, like an explorer. Thanks to the gradient bar in the background, large folders can be recognized at a glance. All scan results can be drilled down to the file level and filters can be added, for example for files of a specific type.
It scans locally synced network drives and cloud shares, just like TreeSize Personal (only on Windows servers and within a Windows domain).
For each file and folder, the column view displays more specific information. The size or number of files, as well as the date last accessed and the owner, are all listed here (and other useful facts).
The versatile filter option can be used to break down scan results. For example, you can use filters to discover files of a specific type, such as temporary files, text files, or photos, and then use that information to clean your hard drives.
It uses the MFT (Master File Table) and can scan at incredibly fast speeds. While TreeSize Free runs in the background, the scanning processes run in a thread, so you'll notice the results almost instantly. The app supports explorer context menu and drag and drop actions.
The NTFS compression rate can be seen in Tree Size Free, and NTFS compression can be applied to directory branches.
As an administrator, you can use Startup Tree Size Free to calculate the size of all folders, including those for which you do not have access rights.
