When you install this app on your Android device, it will ask you for permission to access your contact list. This app selects contacts who have installed Viber on their devices using this method.

On Android smartphones, setting up Vibe is pretty straightforward. After downloading the program, simply enter your phone number and a username on the prompt screen. It takes care of the rest, including registering the user's phone number. Viber, like most messaging services, sends a text message to your phone to authenticate your account.
Following this, the app will ask for a few permissions, including access to your phone book, as well as media and gallery permissions. These permissions are required for the app to work properly, sync with your device, and search for contacts who are already on Viber.
For example, a big blue + button displays a list of all your Viber contacts, allowing you to easily start a new individual or group message.
The leftmost tab shows your current chats. Surprisingly, making a call to another Viber user also adds a new entry to the Chats tab. The Calls tab on the far right contains all call details, including whether the call was incoming or outgoing.
The Contacts tab in the center mimics the contacts on your phone. Viber users are identified by a purple symbol. By pressing one you can make free calls, send free messages, make video calls and make a call Viber-Out, which is essentially the same as a regular phone call.
